Introduction: Microsoft Dynamics NAV has always had a pretty good Project Accounting or Job Costing module but in recent years two changes have made the offering even more compelling;
- Firstly, the module is now available in the entry level Starter Pack version of Dynamics NAV, previously you only got access to the Jobs features if you purchased the optional Extended Pack or Advanced Management Edition
- Secondly, with the release of NAV 2017, Microsoft have given “Jobs” a facelift along with functional improvements. You can see below the new Project Manager Role Centre, out of the box you have a Jobs or Projects dashboard for users to keep on top of their work and for managers to see what stage jobs are at.
Functionality in NAV’s Jobs module: Keeping up with the details of a project can often be as much of a challenge as the project itself. With Microsoft Dynamics NAV, you get detailed, yet accessible, dashboards that give you an accurate picture of your finances and project processes, so you can know precisely what every project is costing and what stage it is at.
The Jobs area supports common project management tasks, such as configuring a job and scheduling a resource, as well as providing the information needed to manage budgets and monitor progress. With the Jobs feature, you can manage long-term projects that involve the use of man hours, machine hours, inventory items, and other types of usage that you want to keep track of. You can track machine and employee hours on the project by using time sheets. Using the Jobs functionality will provide a good overview, not only of individual jobs, but also of the allocation of employees, machinery and other resources being used in all projects. You can also use this functionality for many types of services and consultancy tasks.
