With the release of the new Dynamics 365 product range, and their partial crossover with Dynamics NAV, it has meant that the NAV roadmap is a bit of an evolving story, with Microsoft releasing their exciting plans in piecemeal fashion. In this short blog we will go through what we know so far.
Dynamics NAV: The next version, called NAV 2018, will be released on December 1st this year. This next release will offer some new features and enhancements but will also continue to offer both on-prem and partner deployed cloud options. NAV 2018 will continue on the journey of bringing Microsoft applications closer together, with tighter integration to products such as Office 365 and Power BI.
Dynamics 365: Dynamics 365 Financials is already available in some countries, although not in Ireland. This was seen as a 1st step in the process and, in 2018, we will see the new version of Dynamics 365, currently codenamed “Tenerife”. Dynamics 365 Tenerife will offer Small to Medium businesses a fully-fledged ERP solution with both on-prem and Microsoft cloud deployment options. The codebase for both on prem and cloud will be the same and will effectively be Dynamics NAV rebranded as Dynamics 365 Tenerife but with a full Microsoft cloud offering
Conclusion: The next version of Dynamics NAV (NAV 2018) will be released in December this year. After that all future releases of NAV will be re-branded as Dynamics 365 “Tenerife”. It will offer a Microsoft cloud deployment option but crucially, for NAV customers, will continue to be a customisable solution giving users the best of both worlds.
